TIm Passmore was chosen from three shortlisted Conservative candidates after 2 votes in an open meeting on 21 July, down from around 12 applicants initially. The other shortlisted candidates were David Card (formerly of NFU Mutual where he developed a Farm Watch anti-crime scheme), and Ray Herring – Leader of Suffolk Coastal District Council.
Jane Basham has been chosen as the Labour candidate, on a shortlist of which included Tim Beach. Ms Basham secured union backing and former Chief Superintendent Beach withdrew from the contest for unspecified reasons.
The Liberal Democrats said they would not be fielding a candidate.
I am the Norfolk and Suffolk Conservatives Area Chairman and as you say in you article David Card, Tim Passmore and Ray Herring are our Candidates for an Open Primary as we call it.
This will be held on the outskirts of Ipswich on the morning of Saturday 21st July.
Registration to attend the meeting and voting is open to anyone who is a registered voter in Suffolk or in the very rare case someone who is a member of one of our Suffolk Conservative Associations but not registered to vote in Suffolk.
