Burslem councillor Joy Garner, a member of the police authority, won the Labour nomination with 402 votes from local party members, compared to 351 for rival Michael Poulter, the former police authority chairman.

Staffordshire Conservatives have chosen County Councillor Matthew Ellis against County Councillor Robbie Marshall, and the party’s deputy chairman in Stone, Neill Harvey-Smith.
